LSS Yellow belt session 3: Roles
A powerful Six Sigma company can attain success not limited to the application of its statistical tools but can also hold accountability on its investments.
The company’s structure can be an enormous factor in determining the success of Six Sigma.
The following are the common roles in Six Sigma. These people should have proper training and background:
- Executive Sponsor – a business-minded person who monitors and initiates incentive programs that reward deserving personnel
- Champion – a manager who determines a project based on criteria and approving it once completed
- Process Owner – an individual who supplies knowledge on processes and implements changes
- Master Black Belt – a full-time position who monitors at least fifteen to twenty projects simultaneously, lends advice to black and green belts, and address issues on project inactiveness
- Black Belt – a full-time individual trained in Six Sigma methods and tools who guides and manages projects and calculates necessary company computations such as ROI and net present value
- Green Belt – a full-time individual trained in Six Sigma methods and tools who facilitates projects with smaller investments
- Yellow Belt – an individual made aware of the Six Sigma methods and tools who present support to projects
- Project Team Member – someone who is selected by the process owner, who participates in defining the scope and charter of a project
The company’s finance and the business department may engage in verifying and validating the projects before submitting it to the top management.
